Methodology

Each state entry links to the licensing board's own site — not a third-party aggregator — with a plain-language note on what that board does and doesn't cover, since licensing structure varies a lot by state (some license general contractors statewide, some only specific trades, some not at all).

Verified vs. not yet verified

Every state page is labeled with one of these two, at the top of the page:

Verified means the board name, URL, and note were checked against the live site as of the date shown. Not yet spot-checked means the entry was populated from general knowledge of the agency and hasn't been re-confirmed against the live portal — agency names and URLs do change, so treat those as a starting point rather than a guarantee.

What this site doesn't do

There's no unified API across states, so this isn't a real-time verification service — it's a curated set of direct links to where that verification actually happens. If a state has no statewide license for general contracting (several don't), the page says so rather than pointing somewhere misleading.

Keeping links current

Every board URL here was confirmed by hand on the date shown on its state page. The automated monthly re-check is not currently working — it has run and failed, and it has produced no results to show you. So the hand-confirmed date is the last time anyone verified that link, full stop, and if a button sends you somewhere unexpected, search the board's name directly.
