Missouri doesn’t issue a statewide general-contractor license — it’s handled by the city or county where the work is performed. Check that jurisdiction’s building department (or equivalent); the board above still covers any state-licensed trades.
How to verify a license
Open the official portal above. Most state boards let you search by license number, business name, or licensee name — the exact fields vary by state, since each board runs its own system. If a license number is available, that's usually the fastest and most exact match.
What to check, beyond "does a license exist"
- Status is active, not expired, suspended, or revoked
- The license classification matches the actual scope of work
- The licensed business name matches who you're contracting with
- Where the board shows it, bond and insurance standing
